Abstract : In this paper, we introduce a weight allocation strategy used to combine the received information from a set of base stations involved in a distributed admission control process. A method to compute the weights in a one and two-dimensional networks is proposed. We also propose a Distributed Call Admission Control (DCAC) framework designed for wireless mobile multimedia networks. We evaluate the performance of the DCAC scheme in terms of call-dropping probability, call blocking probability and average bandwidth utilization. We further introduce a combined performance metric to facilitate performance comparison between CAC schemes. Simulations demonstrate that the weight allocation strategy improves the performance. We also investigate the impact of the number of involved cells in the admission control process on the overall performance. q 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
